The Ambient Element
Malaysian Architecture Weeks ( MAW ) 2026
As we approach 2035, architecture must operate within a landscape of technological saturation, accelerated time, and climate uncertainty. DEK’s Design Code refuses the impulse to predict these shifting variables.
Instead, logic of MINUS (-) is applied to strip away the ‘temporary’ noise of the current time, prioritizing human sensory experience as the only permanent, Fundamental Constant. This system of rules is designed to find equivalence and
balance (=) between the inhabitant and their surroundings when nothing else is stable.
The Ambient Element explores architecture as a carefully designed perceptual instrument with technology - where the existent environment is captured, reframed, and transformed into an ephemeral sensory experience.
2035 — ∞
we live in a digital realm, sustained by invisible energy. When that energy wanes, the illusion fades, and what remains is the reality of what we can sense: see, hear, touch, feel and smell. In the end, humanity returns to the fundamental constant :
the sensory world that has always been there.
